We Love Reading – Suggested activities-Reading competitions for Students, Teachers, Head Masters, Student Teachers of DIETs, Teacher Educators, Principals of DIETs during summer - 2022 – Certain instructions

  1. The attention of all the Regional Joint Directors of School Education, District Educational Officers and Principals of DIETs in the state is invited to the references read above, wherein this office was issued instructions for implementation of the WE LOVE READING PROGRAMMEE for a systemic transformation of all the students from non-readers to fuent readers with complete comprehension. In this connection we need to encourage the students, Teachers to read good number of library books and also to participate in the competitions during the summer vacation.
  2.  As a part of summer vacation-2022 all the students are informed to get books from the school library to read during summer holidays, and after reading the books they may be exchanged those books with their friends.
  3. To encourage reading habit, School Education is going to conduct “We Love Reading Competitions” (WLRC) for students, teachers, school head masters, student teachers, teacher educators and DIET Principals. The details of competitions are annexed. They are requested to upload their responses in the given link. ( https://forms.gle/voBnKyqMWPM2tR1f7).
  4. Therefore, all the Regional Joint Directors, District Educational Ofcers and Principals of DIETs in the state are instructed to give wide publicity about the activities and competitions related to “We Love Reading” (WLR) and also requested to take necessary action and motivate all the students, teachers, head masters, student teachers, Teacher Educators and DIET principals to participate in the competitions.

 Receipt of these proceedings should be acknowledged.

We Love Reading Programme (WLR)

 Annexure -I

As a part of summer vacation - 2022 all the students are informed to bring books from the school library and asked them to read those books during summer holidays. After reading the books they may exchange those books with their friends. The following activities were suggested during summer - 2022, for good reach to the children each step of the activity named idiomatic forms to make familiar to them.

  1. Me and my book: After reading the book, everyone has to write their opinion on that book. Like own ideas and feelings about the characters, situations, pictures regard the book.

    2) Books in the shelf:Visit Friends and relatives houses. Try to list out the names of the books found with your friends and relatives.  Discuss on those books and note down the signifcance.

    3) Picture gallery:

    Collect old newspapers/magazines and cut pictures which are most likable. Paste those pictures in a notebook. It is the picture gallery.

    4) The stories of my friends:

    Forming a group with friends / classmates. Discus the stories, then after write those stories with their own words in a notebook.

    5) My story bank:

    Collect stories from the newspapers or magazines. Cut those pages and paste it in a notebook. This will become story bank.

    6) Picture story:

    Select any pictures from the newspapers or magazines. Develop a story by using the pictures as a center point of the story.

We Love Reading Competitions (WLRC) :  Annexure - II

We Love Reading Competitions (WLC) for Students: 

During summer holidays the following competitions will be conducted for students. These are all online competitions, to come in for it needed Android version of mobile phone/Tab/Computer usage. These electric goods usage is very familiar in children due to the COVID pandemic times.
  1. story writing competition:

    Students studying classes 3rd to 10th are eligible for this story writing competition. They have to write a story on their own and send the story to the given mail address. The story should be own writing that should not be copied/resemble of any other story.

    2. Drawing competition: Students studying Classes 3rd to 10th are eligible for drawing competitions.  Drawings will be on the A4 size chart paper need to send the drawings through Whats App or Mail address as given.

    3. Story Reading competition:Students studying classes 3rd to 10th are eligible for this competition. They need to select any one story, Read the story with proper modulation. Make a video with replication of the story which is read. After the completion of the video upload it in You tube with the help of parents/Teachers/friends/siblings. The You tube link of that video need to communicate through mail address (Note: Video should not exceed 2 minutes).

    4) My personal library

    Students studying Classes 3rd to 10th are eligible for this competition. Students are to list out the books that they have in their home for reading and take a photo along with them and has to upload in the link given.

 Competitions for teachers:

Book reading and Review writing competition:- 

  1. Teachers  who are working  in  Primary ,Upper Primary and High Schools in the State are eligible.
  2. The Teacher will select a book particularly on education pedagogy, children learning and assessment/classic literature related to education. Read the book thoroughly and write a detailed review on the book.
  3. The write-up will be written on A4 size paper, writing should be neat and legible not in a stereotype.
  4. Scan and upload in the given link.

Competitions for School Head masters:Analysis on the book that you read:- 

  1.  Select any one book related to pedagogy, children learning and assessment from the school library / other resource.
  2.  Write detailed review report on the book on A4 size paper, writing should be neat and legible.
  3.  Scan and upload in the given link 
Innovative practices related to We love reading in your school.
  1. Prepare a note on innovative practices related to we love reading implementation in the school.
  2.    Scan the write-up and upload in the given link along with suitable photos.

To establish community Reading Centres

      Schools function for 220 days out of 365 days in an academic year. Students stay 145 days outside the school. We don't have public libraries in every village to spend these days in libraries. We need to motvate the parents to provide reading space for their children during these days, since most of the parents are unable to spend some tme for their children. Contnuous motvaton/inspiraton for the parents and public is very much required to know the importance of reading and for providing reading space (library) for their children. Hence every HM, Teacher, Principal DIET, Teacher educator needs to be encouraged the parents, public to understand the concept and to establish community reading centres / reading space and to identfy the reading volunteers. with the help of parents and public reading centres have to be established in as many villages as they can under their catchment area. 1. Head Master has to ensure whether the Community Reading Centers have started by the villagers voluntarily .2.Head master has to prepare a detailed write up on the Community Reading Center, with the following details i.e Name of the Community Reading Center, Source of books, Timings, Activities, Volunteer details, Name of the teacher adopted etc.Upload the write up , details of Community Reading Centers along with its actvites in the given link.

Competitions for Teacher Educators: Book reading and review competition:-

  1. Teacher educators who are working in Govt DIETs, CTEs and IASE in the State are eligible.
  2.  Teacher Education Institutions have rich library resources. The Teacher educators need to select a book particularly on education pedagogy. Read the book thoroughly and write a detailed review on the book.
  3. The write-up will be on A4 size paper, writing should be neat and legible.
  4. Scan and upload in the given link

Research Report Review competitions:-

  1.  Select one published Research Report on education-teaching and Learning ( NCERT Research Papers, research articles published by in magazines like Learning Curve by Azim Premji university, Vidhyabhavan Society, UNICEF, World bank reports etc)
  2.  Read the document thoroughly and write the understandings. Submit that write up in the given web link.

Activities for DIET students:

Book reading and Review writing competition:- 

  1.  Student Teachers who are studying in Govt DIETs, CTEs and IASEs in the State are eligible.
  2.  Each student Teacher will be given a book from the DIET/CTE/IASE library. Preferably books on pedagogy of teaching and learning. ( John Holt – How children Learn,How Children fail, Learning all the time, GijuBhai-Pagatikala, Thallidandrula Thalanoppi, Pillalake naa Hrudayam ankitham, Railu badi, Chaduvu etc.) 
  3.  The student teacher shall read the book and write a detailed review in the lines of child and learning.
  4. The write-up will be write on A4 size paper, writing should be neat and legible
  5. Scan and upload in the given link

Read aloud story competitions:-

  1.  Identify students studying classes I to X in your village, gather them in a convenient place and time and conduct Read aloud story activity for them during summer vacation. Discusses about story, characters and children feelings. Use Read along app also. Encourage children to read stories on their own.
  2. Write your fndings in the process and submit along with photographs in the given link.

Story reading/telling competition:-

  1. Select any story and read the story with proper modulation.
  2. Make a video of your own story reading.
  3.  Upload the video in YouTube and keep the sharable link in the form given.

Activities for DIET Principals:

Book reading and Review writing competition:- 

  1. Principals who are working in Govt DIETs, CTEs and IASEs in the State are eligible.
  2. Teacher Education Institutions have rich library resources. The Principal will select a book particularly on education pedagogy. Read the book thoroughly and write a detailed review on the book.
  3. The write-up should be on A4 size paper, writing should be neat and legible.
  4.  Scan and upload in the given link.

Innovative activities related to We love Reading competitions:-

  1.  The principal of teacher education institution shall write a detailed report on implementation of we love reading related activities in the institution to promote reading culture among student teachers and teacher educators as well.
  2. Upload your write up in the given web link.

A separate Google sheet will be floated to collect the material from students, teachers, school head masters, student teachers, teacher educators and DIET Principals, and a live dashboard for  monitoring purpose also be made available for convenience.
